Over the last few weeks, COVID-19 has changed everything, but mainly how we engage with each other. While social distancing has forced most of Baltimore City to work from home, the SWCOS Next Generation Scholars team has been thinking through creative ways to stay engaged with their students during these changing times. To ensure that our students continue to explore their college and career goals, we have continued our one-on-one mentoring through phone calls and text. While phone calls are great, we really wanted to see our student’s faces, so we hosted our first Virtual Group Meeting on Wednesday, April 1st. After having the scholars learn about Collegeboard and research their top schools, we used the virtual meet up as an opportunity to not only catch up and have some fun conversations but to also learn about what colleges they are interested in and how certain majors would ultimately help them reach their career goals. While social distancing has felt like a chore, it was great to see our students (and some of their pets!) because it reminded us that we are in this together, dealing with COVID-19 and ensuring that they reach their dreams!
