In an open conversation between Principal Mosley and PSC Director, Shantay McKinily, this fall Mr. Mosley shares how coaching has helped him to reframe how he considers the trauma that his students’ experiences. Since beginning work with the PSC three years ago, his approach to his school has become more trauma-responsive to create a restorative, healing environment for all Gwynns Falls students and families. Coaching has helped him to focus more explicitly on conversations around race and equity. The supports from the PSC have helped him to develop as a leader and has changed how he coaches his teachers and makes decisions that impact Gwynns Falls. He shared, “When the teachers see the benefit of Restorative Practices in action and are able to see students take ownership of the restorative principles and concepts- it’s working. When you see students leading the work, then you know that we are doing something right.”
