Our community schools program has been another area of rapid growth for the PSC. Last year, we added four new community schools, for a total of seven schools. PSC Community School Coordinators, who are all licensed social workers, facilitate parent engagement and develop community partnerships as well as help lead their school teams in creating positive, restorative, and healing environments. In our new partner schools, we have spent the last year conducting needs assessments, developing relationships with school communities, hiring and training new staff coordinators, and connecting students and community members to resources.
The resources provided by the Community Schools strategy have been especially essential during the pandemic and the associated economic decline. New and returning coordinators have been responsible for organizing the distribution of food, collecting and distributing technology, connecting families with internet access, identifying sources of for diapers and other household essentials, sourcing masks and other personal protective equipment, coordinating emergency social and emotional supports, and ensuring the continued attendance and engagement of all students.
